Wallpaper Optical Illusions

Optical Illusion Wallpaper Series
Class: 0000 (Spring 2019)

This project unfolded in two interconnected phases. First, I digitally engineered four stand-alone optical illusions, experimenting with geometry, color theory, and spatial tension to produce images that appear to shift and pulse as the viewer’s perspective changes. Each illusion was refined to deliver a distinct—yet harmonious—visual experience, balancing precision with playfulness.

In phase two, I wove the four illusions into a seamless repeating pattern intended for wallpaper. My goal was to replicate the feeling of motion one might sense while walking through a contemporary art gallery: a continuous visual journey that invites the eye to roam, discover nuances, and linger on hidden relationships among the forms. The resulting surface turns any wall into an interactive canvas—simultaneously decorative and thought-provoking.

This project showcases my ability to:

  • Translate fine-art concepts into functional surface design

  • Employ geometric and color research to craft compelling optical effects

  • Build cohesive patterns from multiple independent artworks

  • Create interior applications that spark curiosity and sustained engagement
