The Window
The Window – Silkscreen Print
Class: 0000 (Spring 2021)

The Window is an original silkscreen print inspired by the structure and symbolism of a mandala. Drawing from the mandala’s associations with harmony, balance, and introspection, I designed a geometric composition that feels both grounded and expansive—like looking through a window into a meditative state of mind.

The process began with hand-illustrating the intricate design, which I then transferred onto a silkscreen. Using a precision application of screen filler, I selectively masked areas to control where ink would pass through the mesh. This required a careful, deliberate approach—each shape and line contributing to the symmetry and flow of the final image.

The act of printing became part of the concept itself: repetitive, focused, and intentional. The layered design invites viewers to pause and engage with its detail, offering a quiet moment of reflection much like gazing through a real window.

This project demonstrates my ability to:
-
Create original, concept-driven designs rooted in symbolic meaning
-
Execute detailed and technical silkscreen processes with care and precision
-
Use pattern and repetition to evoke calm and introspection
-
Translate traditional forms into contemporary printmaking practices
