My Girl
My Girl – Silkscreen Portrait
Class: 0000 (Spring 2021)

My Girl is a deeply personal silkscreen print created in tribute to my beloved senior dog, Katie. During a time when she was facing significant health challenges, I turned to printmaking as a way to honor her presence in my life and preserve the quiet beauty of our bond.

Using a photo emulsion process, I began by selecting a meaningful photograph of Katie—one that captured her gentle eyes and calm spirit. I coated the screen with light-sensitive emulsion, exposed it under UV light, and carefully washed out the unexposed areas to reveal a detailed image. This delicate outline became the foundation for printing, allowing me to transform a cherished moment into a lasting visual memory.

Through multiple layers of ink and precise registration, I worked to preserve the unique textures of her fur and the emotional depth of her expression. Every step in the process became a therapeutic act of love and remembrance. My Girl stands as both a technical exploration in photo-based silkscreen and a heartfelt tribute to a companion who meant the world to me.

This project demonstrates my ability to:
-
Use photo emulsion silkscreen techniques to capture photographic detail
-
Create emotionally resonant, narrative-driven artwork
-
Combine technical skill with personal storytelling
-
Transform memory into meaningful, lasting visual expression
