During my Public Relations Planning course, I had the opportunity to work with a real client: Comicpalooza, one of Houston’s largest pop culture conventions. This project was designed to simulate an agency-client relationship, challenging us to create a full-scale PR campaign that aligned with the client’s goals and audience needs.

Working in a collaborative team environment, we conducted audience research, developed a SWOT analysis, identified communication gaps, and proposed strategic objectives tailored to key demographics, including Gen Z and the Asian community. We designed a comprehensive campaign that included influencer partnerships, targeted pop-up events, content strategies for social media, and storytelling elements that highlighted the inclusive and community-focused identity of Comicpalooza.

My contributions included campaign messaging, research analysis, and strategy development. The final deliverable was a professionally designed PR plan book, which reflected both our strategic vision and attention to detail. This experience allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, enhance my teamwork and communication skills, and gain valuable insight into client-based PR strategy development.

As part of a semester-long client project in my Public Relations Planning course, my team and I developed and presented a strategic communications campaign for Comicpalooza, a major Houston-based pop culture convention.

This presentation served as the final pitch of our proposed PR plan, which aimed to increase brand awareness and audience engagement—specifically targeting Gen Z and the local Asian community. Our approach included in-depth audience research, a full SWOT analysis, defined objectives, key messages, and creative strategies such as influencer collaborations, pop-up events, and social media-driven storytelling.

I contributed to the research, campaign design, and final presentation, helping to craft tactics that emphasized Comicpalooza’s inclusive and community-driven spirit. The experience not only strengthened my strategic thinking and collaborative skills but also gave me hands-on experience working with a real client in a professional setting.
